Apple came out with some crazy new phones this time. You have the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which are both classic slab shaped. But they also released the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable phone, which is a whole different animal when it comes to the iPhone experience.
What’s the difference between each of them? Well, let’s take a look.

iPhone 18 Pro: Small Body, Big Power
iPhone 18 Pro has a 6.3-inch display size which isn’t too big. The new phone still comes with the Super Retina XDR OLED screen, just sharper this time around. You will also get ProMotion which will allow you to enjoy 120Hz on your iPhone. In outdoor settings, the brightness will hit 3,000 nits. And it is once again protected with Ceramic Shield 2 which should be more durable than the previous iPhone Pro models.
iPhone 18 Pro is going to use the new A20 Pro chip. This new chip is created on a 2-nanometer process. This gives it a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and a Neural Engine that has two sets of 16 cores. Vapor Chamber tech is also coming in the new generation.
The camera setup brings three 48MP rear lenses together:
- Fusion Main, now with a variable aperture that adjusts to lighting on its own
- Fusion Ultra Wide for landscapes and group shots
- Fusion Telephoto for zoomed shots without losing detail
With pro controls you can also control your aperture, shutter speed, and white balance on the camera app itself.
You’ll get around 34 hours of battery life and fast charging up to 50% in 15 minutes. It will come in Black, Silver, Glacier, and Burgundy. Storage options will range from 256gb-2tb. Prices start at ₹164,900 in India and $1199 in the US.
iPhone 18 Pro Max: Same Engine, Bigger Body
Pretty much everything is the same as the iPhone 18 Pro except for the size. The chip is identical, and the camera setup is also identical. You’ll be getting Ceramic shield 2 on this one as well. So only size and battery life differ between these two.
Display size is 6.9″ with a resolution of 2868 x 1320 pixels. It also has ProMotion, an Always-on display, and can hit 3,000 nits of brightness. It will also be coming with iOS 27 which has new Apple Intelligence and an improved Siri.
Like I said before, the cameras will be identical to the iPhone 18 Pro. So there’s no reason to choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if you’re looking for a better camera. Just go with the bigger size and better battery.
Battery life is where the Pro Max really pulls ahead, rated for up to 43 hours of video playback. That extra stamina adds some weight though. The Pro Max weighs 249 grams against 211 grams for the standard Pro. You’ll feel that after a full day in your pocket.
Storage runs from 256GB up to 2TB. iPhone 18 Pro Max pricing starts at ₹179,900 in India and $1,299 in the US.
iPhone Duo: Apple’s First Foldable Phone
This is where it gets really exciting. As I said before, the Duo is not your typical iPhone; it’s created around the idea of having a foldable hinge instead of taking the Pro and making it bigger/smaller.
The outside screen size will be 5.4 inches when closed. When you open it up, you have a huge 7.6-inch display, almost tablet-sized. ProMotion, always-on display, and 3,000 nits of brightness are what both screens have to offer. The outside screen will feature nano-texture glass, which helps reduce reflections and the crease.
The phone will use Grade 5 titanium, and the hinge will consist of 100+ pieces. The phone will have an IP68 rating. Impressive for a phone with a foldable screen.
Power comes from the same A20 Pro chip. Apple reworked iOS 27 just for the bigger inner screen too. Split View lets you run two apps side by side. You can open two windows of the same app at once, or save your favorite app pairs for quick access later. The Duo also works with the USB-C Apple Pencil, which opens the door to note-taking and sketching right on that big inner display.
A few trade-offs come with the folding design. Instead of three rear cameras, the Duo sticks to a 48MP Dual Fusion system. That means a Main and Ultra Wide lens, with the Main offering an optical-quality 2x zoom. There’s no dedicated telephoto lens here, and no variable aperture either. Face ID is gone too. Touch ID built into the side button takes its place.
The fold does open up a few fun camera tricks. You can snap selfies with the sharper rear cameras. Watch yourself on the outer display as you shoot, or flip it around so the person you’re photographing gets a live preview instead, a feature Apple calls Duo Preview. Smart Take handles automatic shutter triggers too, so group shots take less fumbling around.
The battery will vary based on what screen you’re using. Apple claims you can get up to 44 hours out of it on the outer display and 31 hours on the inside display. Expect about 24 hours of normal usage.
The iPhone Duo comes in Night Sky and Star White, with storage from 256GB up to 2TB. It costs a lot more than the Pro lineup too, starting at ₹299,900 in India and $1,999 in the US. Pre-orders open October 16. Shipping starts a week later on October 23, 2026.
iPhone 18 Pro Max vs iPhone Duo: Which One Fits You?
If you want Apple’s fastest chip and sharpest cameras in a familiar shape, the iPhone 18 Pro handles that without any fuss. Want a bigger screen and longer battery on top of that? The Pro Max covers you there for a small price jump.
The Duo is made for someone who will enjoy having both a tablet and a phone in one. They may have to spend some money or sacrifice a telephoto lens, but it’s worth it if you want to do work on your device. Multitasking, Apple Pencil, and the big screen inside can be helpful.
Most buyers will still land on the iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max, and that makes sense for most everyday needs. But the Duo marks Apple’s first real step into a new phone shape. Time will tell if folding becomes the new normal. Either way, it’s a bold opening move for 2026.
